Steve is the son of an auto body technician. As a child, he spent hours watching his dad tinker away in the garage on his 1970s Honda Shadow. In high school, he helped turn a 1980s Toyota Coaster into the family's motorhome. He also spent hours of his spare time tuning and racing cars in Need for Speed and Forza Motorsport.
In 2015, Steve worked as a researcher on the Emmy-nominated "Stray Bullets," a documentary about gun violence in the Philippines for global news broadcaster Al Jazeera.
Since 2016, Steve has worked as an investigative journalist and copywriter, deconstructing topics as complex as cryptocurrency, finance, and cannabis.

Experience

Steve began his career in 2014, working with Al Jazeera English in Malaysia as a researcher for the current affairs program "101 East." He has built a career as an investigative journalist and copywriter, honing his research and reporting skills while covering fields as varied and complex as cryptocurrency, finance, and even cannabis—a niche he discovered by chance but quickly became knowledgeable about while writing for brands like Royal Queen Seeds, Sensi Seeds, and Zamnesia. Steven's cannabis content has focused on political issues such as legalization measures, the complex and technical art of cultivation, and the biological functions behind cannabis' unique effects on humans. Steven is changing course and using his research and reporting skills to craft features for Jalopnik.

Steve holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Monash University.
