What's Your Favorite Type Of Car?

Part of the fun (or pain) of being a car enthusiast is talking (or arguing) about your favorite [insert descriptors here]. Everyone has their favorite models, their favorite engines, their favorite brands, their favorite eras of car. I'm sure you all have favorite paint colors, wheel designs, lighting signatures and seats, among all sorts of other attributes. For today's question I want to go pretty broad, though: What's your favorite type of car?

This is different than asking what's the best type of car. What, personally, do you like the most? Are you a fan of pickup trucks or body-on-frame off-roaders, or maybe you prefer large luxury sedans? You might love mid-engine sports cars more than anything else, or more practical vehicles like minivans and small hatchbacks. Whether your answer is a broad segment or vehicle type, a specific price range or size class, or something a lot more granular and nerdy, I want to know about it. And tell me why, of course.

I love a dichotomy

For me, I have two favorite types of cars that are on total opposite ends of the spectrum in basically every regard. On the one hand, I absolutely love city cars, especially French ones like the new Renault Twingo. Consistently across every decade, tiny hatchbacks and other kinds of city cars have some of the most interesting, expressive designs of anything on the road. I love the packaging solutions for powertrains, people and their things, and the innovative features and technologies that many city cars introduce, like the Smart ForTwo's replaceable body panels.

On the other hand, man do I love a good hypercar. Supercars are one thing, but when you get into the upper echelon of price, performance and exclusivity is when things really get exciting to me. Looking at cars from a company like Bugatti or Koenigsegg, I adore the extravagant designs, fantastical craftsmanship, boundary-pushing powertrains and features you won't find anywhere else in the automotive world.

But what about you? What's your favorite type of car? Let me know in the comments below and I'll round up my favorites later this week.
