Our Readers Think These Cars Need To Gain Another Axle, And I Agree With All Of Them

People love to say that "less is more," but I think that's total BS. Clearly more is more. That's true when it comes to fashion, food, movie budgets, number of cats owned by a single person, amount of fireworks... OK, I'm being a bit facetious, but still. I'm always in the camp of whatever is wild and interesting versus tame and boring, and especially when it comes to cars, boundaries can always be pushed. Earlier this week I asked our audience to tell me what cars they think need to gain another axle, and luckily a lot of you agreed with me that more is more.

I kept my featured answers to cars that are currently in production, but some of you had some great ideas for past models that would've been great with another axle — shoutout Dr.Xyster who brought up the Panoz Esperante GTR-1. We've got a lot of great ideas here for six-wheeled vehicles, and hopefully some automakers are listening. Come on, you don't want to be late to the three-axle party! Without further ado, here are my favorite answers:

Rolls-Royces really are too short, and adding more axles would help with that.

Honestly, with the way Super Duty diesels are going for towing and payload, it feels like only a matter of time before it's a factory option. So let's add the Transit or next gen Express and Sprinter to that too, cuz why not?

Not another axle, but Ford needs to capitalize on the success of the Maverick by offering a Dually model.

F1. Because why not?

The new rule is you need 6 axels and we don't care if it's 2 in the front or 2 in the back but 4 of them need to steer.

Also the new car has to be 4 feet longer. and 3 feet narrower. And the rear horizontal wing must be replaced with a vertical fin. And there's an f-16 style bubble canopy.

I mean if you're gonna dream, dream big. I want to see these negotiating the Mirabeau-Lowes-Portier section of Monaco.

I would love for F1 to be completely shaken up by a change like this.

Ferrari would never do it, but if any car company that has an image of loud and ostentatious wants to make waves and get the next poster car, then they HAVE to make a 6x6 supercar.

I nominate Lamborghini, because I can totally see a 6x6 off-road supercar evolving from where the Huracan Sterrato left of and I think a 6x6 Urus would be a real hit. You'll see them everywhere in Dubai and it might bring the Sultan of Brunei out of car-collecting hiatus. Rich philanthropist billionaires cosplaying as superheroes for the kids at the local charity will think it's the real deal too.

On a serious note, I do think they're missing an opportunity if they don't do this.

Rivian R1T Hexa. I just really think we need a production pickup with over 1500hp and almost 1800 lbft of torque.

Chevy Suburban, but hear me out.

The third axel goes in the middle, and the whole thing articulates and both front and rear axels steer. Improved turning circle, better towing (maybe?), and it would look bananas!

Plus, it could essentially be built as two separate units. You could leave the aft unit at home if you didn't need it. And you could stick the kids in the back and have some sort of partition between you and the kids. No more hearing Frozen or Moana for hours on end during road trips!
