Plane Porn - Retro Liveries, Part Deux

In the last Plane Porn episode, we got to see the many retro liveries of U.S.-based airlines. Many of you reminded us all of the fact that other airlines around the world also have retro liveries. As I began researching those, I was quite surprised to see how many are out there!

Because there are so many, I have decided to keep this post narrowed to other airlines in the Americas, and some of Europe. We'll look at the rest of Europe and Asia's special birds another time.

First up, from our neighbors to the north, Air Canada's 65th anniversary scheme (top photo) on an Airbus A319 (C-FZUH). You'll notice than many of these liveries have the "cheat line" running down the fuselage at window level. I love this classic look. Photo by BriYYZ on Flickr.

Moving south now to Colombia, Avianca's 80th anniversary Boeing 757-200. Blue & yellow/gold remains a popular color scheme for airlines such as Copa, Ryanair, United & Lufthansa. Here's Air France's 75th Anniversary special livery A320 (F-GFKJ), debuted in 2008, and was in the fleet for two years with a 1946 color scheme. It's sad that this one was temporary. Photo by Steve Walsh on Flickr

British Airways painted a 757 (G-CPET) in their 1980s "Negus & Negus" livery. This one was short-lived, as it was used to commemorate the 757's service to the airline just before they were retired from the fleet. Photo by Mark Harkin on Flickr.

Spain's Iberia Airlines painted this Airbus A319 (EC-KKS) with this special 80th anniversary livery, in 2007. Photo by AeroIcarus on Flickr.

Martinair of Holland had this attractive livery on a Boeing 767-300. The airline was bought out by KLM in 2008 and discontinued passenger flights in 2011. They do however operate cargo flights under KLM management. Photo by calflier001 on Flickr.

Speaking of KLM, they dedicated this 737-800 retro livery on their 90th anniversary, in 2009. KLM stands for Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappijr, which literally translates to Royal Aviation Company. The airline is the oldest carrier in the world still flying under their original name. Lufthansa's retro Airbus A321 (D-AIDV) is probably my favorite one on the list. Maybe Air France, but it's a close call. This plane features Lufty's first post-war livery. This plane joined the fleet in 2005. Photo by Edgar Jimenez on Flickr.
