Found Off The Street: 1965 Buick LeSabre 400

Welcome to Found Off The Street, our look at cars found on the cape that rust liked so much it decided to summer there; Cape Cod, MA. Today we have a 1965 Buick LeSabre 400.

Like many of the vehicles we've seen in Found off the Street this week's 1965 Buick LeSabre hasn't seen the open road in a while. Unlike many of the vehicles we've seen in Found off the Street it wasn't rust that took this Buick off the streets of Cape Cod, but a nasty driver's side impact.

Tucked behind a small gas station on the cape that rust remembered sits the four door 1965 Buick LeSabre 400 seen here. For 1965 the LeSabre was completely redesigned from the previous year's model. 1965 was also the first year the "400" package was available on the LeSabre.

Don't be fooled by the 400 attached to its name, underneath the hood of this big black Buick sits a 300ci V8 which was the only engine available in the LeSabre that year. Although the 400 package meant the small block was a higher compression version equipped with a four barrel carburetor, it's name actually came from the heavy duty Super Turbine 400 automatic transmission it included.

This Buick is parked far enough away from the road that it's hard to see, even though it is in plain view. When I first laid eyes on the old car the other day I immediately pulled in to investigate further. Instantly smitten with the sight of the rough old Buick, I was unbelievably disappointed to discover the damage from a hard drivers side impact.

From a distance this old LeSabre is angled in a way that hides the accident damage, leaving the impression it is an old and slightly ratty car that just needs a little tinkering to bring back to life (in other words, perfect). Unfortunately when you get a little closer, the car reveals its secret. Although it is hard to determine the true extent of the accident damage, it's clear the car needs the help of someone significantly more talented in the art of body repair than myself. I'm not sure what the future plans are for this LeSabre, but as I took the pictures you see here I couldn't help but wish I had found the old black Buick a little bit sooner.
