What Will You Do If Gas Hits $5 A Gallon?

The current price of gas is a severe financial headache with no real relief in sight. At a certain point once-drastic measures take on a certain survivalist appeal. If the price keeps going up to $5 a gallon and above, what will you do about it?

The first rules are the simplest ones: dig out all those old mileage tips from the early Eighties and start implementing. Combine trips, don't idle too long, maybe even (horrors!) slow down a bit. Be conscientious. Even if you don't give a drought-browned fig leaf for the environment, have some sense about what you're burning and see if you can economize.

But that's just the start. What are the real solutions?
