What Car Failed Because It Was Way Too Expensive?
As we saw in today's Answers of the Day, you can get some amazing new car deals right now. That's good because even a great car can be killed by having a price that's unjustified.
That's our question of the day: What car, old or new, was a failure because it cost way more than it should have?
I will submit the obvious answer for all of us: the Volkswagen Phaeton. It was an amazingly high-tech machine, essentially a Bentley with a VW badge, but — shockingly — Americans didn't turn out in droves to pay $65,000 for that badge. The W12 version cost nearly $100,000 when it was new.
The Phaeton wasn't a bad car by any means. It just didn't make sense to buyers.
Your turn: What car's cost doomed it from the start?
