Weekend Motorsports Roundup, Oct. 8-9, 2016

Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what's going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

The FIA Formula E Championship is back for a new season on Sunday, kicking off at a street circuit in Hong Kong. The championship battle came down to Sébastien Buemi and Lucas di Grassi last season, and the drivers finished with only two points separating themselves in the final standings.

Formula One will also race this weekend, running the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka International Racing Course. In predictable news, Lewis Hamilton got so bored during a press conference the other day that he filtered a bunch of other people and himself with animal ears on his Snapchat story. He ended up having to apologize for it.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Xfinity Series are racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the weekend, but the Xfinity Series race was already supposed to happen—weather precautions postponed the race to Sunday, and the Sprint Cup Series is still set to race on Saturday night for the time being.

Red Bull Global Rallycross is in Los Angeles for its season finale this weekend, and the championship title is down to Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross drivers Scott Speed and Tanner Foust. The event is a doubleheader, and will broadcast delayed on Sunday.

The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship will run the Bathurst 1000 on Saturday night (Eastern Time), and it'll be the last time the race will have a field entirely powered by V8s. The live stream is paid, if you're interested in watching the race.

Also streaming will be the Super GT race from Thailand via YouTube, and we'll update the post with the times once we have them.

If you know of any additional streams or events going on this weekend, please feel free to share in the comments below.
