Weekend Motorsports Roundup, Nov. 14-15, 2015
Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what's going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?
Since most championships will be dormant for a few months in the near future, the television schedule this weekend is packed (seriously, it's packed). Be sure to enjoy the racing now, because soon we'll be stuck with replays and off-season blues for the majority of these series.
Formula One runs the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend, and there's plenty of TV coverage (at reasonable times, even—if you're on the same side of the globe as I am). Lewis Hamilton won the championship title a few weeks ago at Circuit of the Americas (and then crashed his $2 million Pagani Zonda on Tuesday morning after "heavy partying"), but we're all just waiting to see what hilarious post-race comments Sebastian Vettel may make.
NASCAR heads to Arizona for its penultimate race weekend of the season, featuring action from all three of the series' top divisions. So far, Jeff Gordon is the only Sprint Cup Series driver to ensure his way into the final Chase round with his win at Martinsville Speedway—Jimmie Johnson won at Texas Motor Speedway, but he was out of the Chase by the end of the first round after some early drama on and off of the track. (Yes, I'm still trying to process how that occurred, too.)
Matt Kenseth will yet again be sitting out of the Cup race and Erik Jones will run the No. 20 car in his place, but we're all hoping for some more (metaphorical) burn-inducing tweets from him. Jones ran the Truck Series race on Friday night, and will race in both the Xfinity and Cup Series races as well—his second triple-duty weekend in a row.
Even though NHRA already crowned a couple of champions in Las Vegas—Antron Brown in Top Fuel and Erica Enders in Pro Stock—the series wraps up its season this weekend at Auto Club Raceway in California. Live finale coverage for the FIA World Rally Championship will be televised as well, but a race victory is the only thing on the line after Sébastien Ogier clinched the championship title in Australia midway through September.
As for tape-delayed coverage, we'll all be treated to some V8 Supercars racing along with motocross, more World Rally Championship action, the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series, Red Bull Air Race and a few others.
The Anaheim Mecum Auction also gets a decent amount of airtime this weekend, particularly on Saturday. If you want to tune in, we've included those TV listings below as well.
If you know of any other races or live streams going on this weekend, feel free to share in the comments.
