Watch The Year's Best Driver's Cars Slide Around Amazing Scottish Roads

Ah, the end of the year. That time when every car publication does their inevitable Car of the Year testing. Some are boring, and some are just predictable (the 1996 Mazda Miata took it home for Jalopnik, again.) But the UK's Evo magazine has a Car of the Year showdown you simply must watch.

All our favorite Evo writers, including Nick Trott, Henry Catchpole and Jethro Bovingdon teamed up to test 10 of the current best performance cars on some fantastic back roads. There are no lame choices here: I'd be happy to put any of these cars in my garage.

The contenders in 2014 are the Volkswagen Golf R, McLaren 650S, Ferrari 458 Speciale, BMW M3, Porsche Cayman GTS, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, BMW i8, Aston Martin Vanquish, Audi S1, and Renaultsport Mégane 275 Trophy-R. You may not be too familiar with that last one if you're an American, but what you need to know is it's currently the fastest front-wheel drive car to lap the Nürburgring.

That's a tough crowd indeed. So which one takes home the glory? I won't spoil it for you, but I will say that for the decision to be as unanimous as it was, it must have been a very special machine indeed.
