Watch Jay Leno Hammer On A Classic Jaguar At The Mille Miglia
Jaguar absolutely threw down at this year's Mille Miglia, inviting many celebrity drivers to pilot some serious cars, including denim enthusiast Jay Leno and Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum who had the keys of a Jaguar XK120 race car.
The Millie Miglia is a four day, thousand mile rally across Italy for cars made in or before 1957, which was the last year of the original Millie Miglia. For auto enthusiasts, it's essentially a rolling museum where classic sports/race cars are driven as they were intended. No doubt, a feast for the eyes and the ears.
Leno and Callum are behind the wheel of a 1951 Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar XK120 race car, decked out in gorgeous metallic blue-grey paint, and powered by a sweet sounding carbureted straight-six. The XK120 was the first sports car Leno ever fell in love with as a kid, and subsequently the first classic car he ever purchased. The Ecurie Ecosse racer here is worth $3 Million and yet Leno seems to have no reservations about driving the hell out of it.
The video, from Jay Leno's Garage, features cameos from Millie Miglia legend Sterling Moss, F1 drivers Martin Brundle and Bruno Senna who are co-piloting a D-Type, and AC/DC frontman/Scotsman Brian Johnson.
This race seems like an absolute dream to behold. Maybe I should follow in our friend Ben Preston's footsteps and make my way out there as he did with the Targa Florio. Or perhaps Jaguar would be so kind to invite me out there. You hear that Jag? I promise if you give me the keys to a D-Type I'll try not to break it.
