Tornado Wrecks $120,000 Corvette ZR1

It's not just Dodge Vipers and SRT-10s getting wrecked by mother nature. Feast your eyes on this mud-caked Corvette ZR1 absolutely destroyed by a twister. Why does mother nature hate American sports cars?

There's nothing sadder for us than seeing a totaled piece of supercardom, especially one as fast and accessible as the Corvette ZR1. This car was caught up in a recent Texas tornado and reduced the $120,000 beast to a $19,600 salvage title asking price. The auction listing at Copart.com (now removed) described the damage as "ALL OVER," which seems about right.

Estimated repair price is over $74,000 and the extent of the damage means the car will never be quite right again, which leads us to the silver lining behind this cloud: the 638 HP, 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 V8 appears to be uninjured. Given the construction of the Corvette's rear subframe, it's a a good possibility the entire driveline is okay to the differential. There are at least three perfectly good carbon ceramic brake corners. This means the car has the potential to be the greatest donor vehicle ever.

Imagine a 638 HP tubbed Prius. Maybe a sub-four second Volvo station wagon. The possibilities are nearly endless. What would you put a ZR1 powertrain in? [LSXTV via CorvetteBlogger]
