Send In The Clown... Car

The 1956 Fiat 600 Multipla is a precursor to the modern minivan. Recently, one was found in Michigan which had been transformed into a clown-car by local Shriners back in the sixties. Bozo's back and he's waiting in your nightmares.

This car is pure concentrated evil. It combines the stigma behind your childhood nightmares with the nemesis that you face every time you pull out of your driveway. I'm talking clowns and minivans folks. How anyone thought this crazy "IT" car would entertain children or even be construed as funny is beyond me.

If you haven't guessed by now, it has been modified a bit. The driver's seat and steering wheel were relocated from the left side to the exact center. The roof and doors were removed while the rear window was left intact. It looks like the builder was trying to play off the common misconception that the vehicle was driving in reverse by adding in a B-pillar and making the rear window resemble a windshield.

The paint job is perhaps the most disturbing attribute of all. Not only does the clown on the front have a painful looking face, but the phrase "Hello Dere" is painted above it. Last time I checked, frowning at someone while uttering incomprehensible phrases wasn't the best way to go about making friends. I can't imagine how many psychologists throughout the years have interpreted dreams involving clowns chasing after people while repeatedly saying "Hello Dere......."

I'd love to say that I hope this car brought joy to someone. Unfortunately, I don't think that anyone defined as "normal" would be especially gleeful if they saw this rolling toward them with an elderly gentleman, wearing a red hat, behind the wheel. I want to thank the individual that kept this a secret for the past 50 years and would not be the least bit sad if it met the same demise as some of the cars made by a certain subsidy of Fiat. You know, the one based in Maranello?
