Porsche's Record-Smashing Nürburgring Lap Video Looks Terrifyingly Fast
For the cynical among us, it's easy to say that Nürburgring record attempts are dumb, arbitrary, unregulated and ultimately meaningless. I would argue that actually nothing matters because we'll all be dead eventually, and that very fast cars are good, so let's all suspend our cynicism and gaze in awe at the unrestricted Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo's terrifyingly fast 5:19.546 'Ring run today.
I'll cut to the damn chase. Here's the video:
I'm sorry, that's just insane to watch, no matter what you think of Nürburgring runs.
As Jalopnik's own Stef Schrader witnessed today, driver Timo Bernhard obliterated a 35-year record previously held by Stefan Bellof, who did it in 6:11.13 in a Porsche 956C. And Bernhard's second lap was even quicker at 5:24.375, followed by a third at 5:19.546.
Turn your headphones up and enjoy. That's all I have to say about that.
