Now The Corvette Faithful Can Stop Bitching About 'Camaro Taillights'

The 2014 Corvette Stingray is, for lack of a better term, damn good. I saw it in person at the Detroit Auto Show, sat in it, grabbed the wheel and rocked from side to side while I made engine noises with my mouth, and walked away impressed. It looks and feels like a great American car, and I can't wait to actually drive one.

I haven't heard many complaints about the car yet, except for one: the taillights. "They're too squarish!" say the Corvette faithful, who prefer their tails always be of the round variety and seem to forget that the C4 Corvette had pretty square-y tails by the 1990s. Even my own father, himself a 'Vette aficionado, can't get past the "Camaro taillights," no matter how good the rest of the car looks. And he's not alone.

I think those people are wrong, but if they insist that round tails are the way to go, they will soon have a remedy. A website called Corvette Italia will purportedly offer a $2,800 kit that will give the C7 some decidedly retro C6-style round tails. Forget for a second that the tails no longer fit with the rest of the car's design language; if it makes Corvette owners happy, why the hell not, right? I know plenty of C5 owners who ditched their pop-up headlamps for fixed ones, even though that should be against the law.

The thing is, this image has been floating around various Corvette websites and forums for about a day, but I can't find a link to the actual kit itself. Is it real? Can anyone out there track it down? And is this better or worse than the C7's stock tails?
