Meet The Kaiser Deuce, The King Of All Jeeps

This is the last Austin "Found Around Town," at least for a little while, as I recently relocated to D.C. Hopefully I'll find some interesting rides in our nation's capital.

In the meantime, Austin went out in a big way for Jalopnik — literally in this case. Here we have a 1970 Kaiser Jeep M35A2 for sale that was parked on South Congress Avenue. No idea if it's still there, but it was about a week ago.

What the hell is an M35A2, you ask? It's a military vehicle in the 2.5-ton weight class that has been built by a variety of manufacturers since the 1950s. Over the years, it has earned the nickname "deuce and a half," or just the "deuce," because of this classification.

Kaiser Jeep was one of the many companies who built this truck, and as you can clearly see, this ain't your sister-in-law's Jeep Compass. It's freaking huge, and it's built to go anywhere and do just about anything. This model apparently comes from 1970, right before AMC bought Kaiser Jeep and dropped the first part of their name.

The sales ad tells us that this one has a White Motor Company 7.8-liter straight six turbo engine capable of running on damn near anything, including diesel fuel, peanut or veggie oil, waste motor oil, and the blood of your enemies. As a bonus, you get a rebuilt tranny with a new clutch, a new rear wiring harness and a host of other goodies. No commercial driver's license required!

The seller is (or was) asking $13,500 for this hulking beast. What do we say, Jalops? Nice price or crack pipe? And if you had a giant old military Jeep, what would you do with it?
