Lotus F1 Team Makes The Slowest Mall Chase Video Ever
The Dubai Mall is the world's largest shopping mall, so Renault let Lotus Formula One team drivers Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado loose inside in a pair of Renault Twizys. Yes, in fact, a Twizy will powerslide.
Everyone loves a good gratuitous-use-of-F1-drivers promotional video (exception: Kimi Räikkönen) and just before the end of the season is when Formula One teams like to let many of their drivers loose for some fun.
The Twizy is a cute little rear-wheel-drive electric city car with a chassis signed off on by RenaultSport themselves. Its electric motor only produces 17 horsepower, but it's lightweight and stiff enough that it can easily break the tail end loose.
Autocar previously tested the Twizy's driftability in a simple outdoor test, but seeing these cute little machines fishtail through an active shopping mall is far more adorable.
If perfectly polished mega-mall floors weren't enough help with getting the back end to step out, Grosjean gets stuck on an ice rink for good measure.
Did we mention this car is adorable? The drivers appear to actually enjoy with this one, too. Take notes, Ferrari. You shouldn't have killed the Purrari after all. Sebastian Vettel would have been the perfect match for its absurd levels of squee.
Bonus: Maldonado doesn't even crash. Maybe they edited it out, or maybe they he's just keeping things under control a little better now. It's been a while since he's had a big smash, anyway.
