If You Made A Song About Honda Or Acura Right Now It Would Be Terrible
It's hard to tell you how an underwhelming product unveil feels like until you've been at one. At auto shows like the Detroit Auto Show, you can feel the whole energy being sucked out of the room when pretty much everyone feels like groaning at the sight of a new car.
That's kind of what happened at the Acura stand this year. The TLX isn't offensive in any way, but it isn't exciting, either. It's just some red, four-wheeled thing.
The same thing happened at the 2014 Honda Civic launch in LA a couple months ago. I had no idea it was new. It continues to be a trend with Honda and Acura, and you've noticed.
In fact, it's been put to song. Unfortunately. Take it away, Ravey Mayvey:
The Song of Acura
Never made it as an AcuraYou couldn't cut it as a poor man's BimmerTired of living like a blind manI'm sick of steering without a sense of feeling
And this is how you remind meThis is how you remind meOf what I really wantThis is how you remind meOf what I really want
It's not like you to stay stagnantI was waiting on a car more sportyThis time I'm mistakenFor handing you a few lease paymentsAnd I've been wrong, I've been down,Been to the bottom of every gas tankThese five words in my headScream "are we having fun yet?"
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, noYeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
It goes on. And no, it isn't much better.
But there is a Honda version, thanks to Vin:
When I'm *drivin' I'm thinkin' bout another carTime and time, againAt sunrise, I fight to stay asleep'Cause I don't want to touch my Acura anymoreCause it's **boredom, a wrapped up in a ***snorefestFrom the company that somehow made, NSXs
So don't go thereLet's rent an Escape(I keed) don't go thereHow much more can we take?
Can you take me, Honda? To a place where redlines screamCan you take me, Honda? To a place where Type R's gleam
Help us, Honda.
