GM To Open Las Vegas Test-Drive Courses Later This Year

Whatever happens in Vegas, whether it stays there or not, GM hopes it'll lead to more sales of its cars and trucks. The company is building an "autotainment" amusement park featuring two test-drive courses near the Las Vegas strip, on which conventioneer and high roller alike can test drive GM's cars on two separate courses. One, an off-road adventure (pictured), features a loop over dirt terrain and obstacles including inclines, ditches, moguls and water troughs, where visitors can flog a Hummer H2 and H3, Chevy Silverado Diesel, Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon Denali, Cadillac Escalade and Chevy Suburban. The second is a "high-performance loop," a paved "route" (don't you dare call it a "track"; you want the boys from legal on our asses?) with "jogs and turns complete with chicanes" on which drivers can sample the Chevy Corvette, Pontiac GTO and Solstice, Cadillac CTS-V and STS-V and Saab 9-3 convertible. GM hopes to attract prospective buyers to the center, which isn't a dealership and guest won't be under pressure to buy — though the company does of course hope to arrange a few marriages.
