Ford Will Recall 1.3 Million F-150 And Super Duty Trucks Because The Doors May Open While Driving
Imagine driving down the road at speed when your door, which you thought was closed, pops open. This would be bad! Ford said Wednesday that it was recalling 1.3 million F-150 and Super Duty trucks to avoid just this scenario.
The recall covers model years 2015-2017 for the F-150s and model year 2017 for the Super Duty. The problem, according to the company, is with the side door latches, which can become frozen or their actuation cables can become bent or kinked. Under such conditions, "the door may appear closed, but the latch may not fully engage the door striker with the potential that the door could open while driving, increasing the risk of injury."
The fix? Water shields and inspections, though the company does not have a timetable for when fixes will begin, according to Reuters. Affected customers will be notified some time next month.
The company says they're not aware of any incidents related to the problem so far. The recall covers 1.1 million trucks in the U.S. and another 240,000 in Canada and Mexico, and is expected to cost the company around $247 million.
