COTD: Dialing 911 On A 'Vette Edition
It's the battle of the decades: In one corner, the legions of Ferdinand Porsche, and the adherence to an ethos of rear-engine, flat-six power in a shape that changes like wind-blown sandstone. In the other, the Corvette clan of Bowling Green, Ky., flying the colors of Zora Arkus Duntov and the wonders of plastic bodies, pushrods and leaf springs. Both pledge allegiance to tradition and performance, and both eyes the other as friend or heretic depending on the circumstances. All of which played out in an exchange between ∞Gîmmî∞, Eggwich McSpencer and others. The COTD goes to the entire band; think of it as a strong album of a thread that doesn't need any hit singles. I think (emphasize on think, again I don't know) that whatever amount one chooses to spend annually on a car (purchase, upkeep, insurance, aftermarket,) dollar-for-dollar, you'd have a hard time building a quicker beast working with anything besides a Corvette.
I'm sure there are contenders, and things quickly get muddled between all-out track performance and everyday usability, but I think the Vette is at least in the running. If I ever see your 7 around SF I'll yell out "nice 7!" just to score a few points for Americans that have an idea. ;)
