Commenter Of The Day: The End Edition
Regardless of how you feel about the band, The Doors' opus "The End" has woven its way into the minds of millions through its haunting melody, obscure lyrics and the premature death of its author. Not too shabby for a simple tune about breaking up with a girlfriend. Said Jim Morrison about the song, "It started out as a simple good-bye song probably just to a girl, but I see how it could be a goodbye to a kind of childhood. I really don't know. I think it's sufficiently complex and universal in its imagery that it could be almost anything you want it to be." Of course, songs are only one type of art that can inspire such introspection. Film, even in the raw form of grainy video, can be equally evocative, as PatFromGundo discovered while viewing our post about a drunk man having sex with a Chevy Blazer today.
Here it is, then: the end of Jalopnik. Car fetishizing has at long last been taken to its logical conclusion. There's no going forward from here, no frontier left to explore, nothing left to do but sit and wait for the cool embrace of death.
"No safety or surprise; The end; I'll never look into your eyes... again." Actually, after that video, we're not sure we'll ever look at anything again.
