Commenter Of The Day: Smile Edition

The success of "Good Vibrations" led Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys to attempt an entire album produced with the same multi-layered, studio constructed sound. The album was to be called Smile and, though many tracks were recorded, it was never fully released beyond the many bootleg versions to be found in the collections of avid music fans. Whether the album failed because its creator Brian Wilson went around the bend or because it was too advanced for its time is unclear. Wilson eventually released it as his own record and it was a hit, garnering the appreciation of fans and critics. When we asked if you have an automotive litmus test our own Cobrajoe piped up with an answer deserving of a full, brimming release.

It's got to make me smile. Just that simple.

I got my Mustang Mach 1 because it's a hooligan with a shaker scoop, and that makes me smile.

I got my Crown Vic PI because it feels like it's an unstoppable piece of American steel, and that makes me smile.

I approved my friend's 05 CTS-V because it turns brutal with the throttle down, and that made me smile.

I bought a '77 Mercury Cougar because it rides like a waterbed, and that makes me smile.

I did not buy an 84 GTi because it did not make me smile enough.

Yes, all the cars I've owned and loved had a certain character, and it's that character that made me smile. Cars that try to act like something else ("Look, I'm a truck!" -crossover) do not make me smile.

BTW, my 240 is not PMY.
