Commenter Of The Day: Rabbi Dave Edition

Every now and then a commenter will decide to go out on a rant and complain about something we've done (often just as a way to break up correcting spelling mistakes). The rants often start with the outraged commenter explaining how they hoped we, Jalopnik, were better than the way we were acting on this particular moment and ending with them claiming they'll never read us again. Today's blowup came in what seemed a rather innocuous post about how Motor Trend could be seen as gaming Google on the ZR1.

Commenter RKWADD had this to say:

Screw you Jalopnik. Motor Trend coming up on Google is a stupid story. You are a stupid blog for bothering to cover it. I came to this site with an open mind, thinking "oh, new car content daily how excellent" and maybe even "what a breath of youthful fresh air compared to the usual monthly mags." After countless stories with headlines like "Poor Little Hardworking Jalopnik Insufficiently Snarky to Penetrate Mainstream Media" and "Jalopnik is the Greatest Internet Site in the World for Exclusively Covering This New Great Thing We Did That Mainstream Media Didn't Do," I've decided that the breath I thought was fresh air was in fact the rotting stink of a self-obsessed website that needs to get back to focusing on...wait for it...CARS.

Unlike the "old media," we're more than happy to go toe-to-toe with commenters who challenge us because the thing that's great about this site is it's a give and take between the writers and the readers, many of whom are incredibly knowledgeable. But it would be unseemly to highlight our on retorts. Thankfully, the surprising hero of the day was none other than David Thomas, who edits a little enterprise called Kicking Tires when not commenting here. His retort:

Well the cult revolves around car coverage including buff books. One thing Jalopnik has always done well is cover the industry AND auto media. They are one of the very few sites that does.

And if you don't like the snark...you're definitely in the wrong place my friend.

Even better, the comment was directed at Angus/rkwadd. Inside baseball? Maybe. But the inside football season is almost over.
