Autozam AZ-1, Subaru Forester XT, Lancia Fulvia Berlina: The Dopest Cars I Found For Sale Online
A tiny kei car import, some classics and even a massive commercial truck.
Another week means another entry into our series featuring the sweet cars I found for sale online.
To compile this list, I search as much of Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist as I can for interesting vehicles that don't cost a fortune. They may be hilariously unreliable, remarkably unusual, questionably tuned, or just something else that stops me in my tracks. Prices for some cars are trending higher due to currently out-of-control used car prices, but I think some good deals are still out there.
1963 Ford Galaxie 500 - $11,000
Here's a classic full-size sedan with a name from and about America's space era. These cars are long enough to land a plane on and feature some powerful motivation of their own. This one is said to be in original condition and comes with a 6.4-liter V8. That engine made 300 horsepower (not quite as we measure it today) in its standard configuration and there was a high performance version available making 401 HP paired to three two-barrel carburetors.
The car shows to be in great shape and is said to only need tires. The listed price is $9,999 on Facebook Marketplace out of Poulsbo, Washington, but the description says $11,000.
2012 Buick Regal GS - $9,500
Here's a sporty and underrated sedan. The Buick Regal GS comes with a 2.0-liter turbo four making 270 HP and is capable of reaching 60 mph in the mid-6 second range. This example comes with a six-speed manual transmission and some light mods, including a tune.
The listing says that the car has a clean title, but money possibly owed on the vehicle. Be sure to inquire about that. It's $9,500 on Facebook Marketplace in Fishers, Indiana, with 79,000 miles.
1971 Lancia Fulvia Berlina - $5,800
The Lancia Fulvia was a high point in Lancia's rally racing career. These early front-wheel-drive sports sedans (and coupes) were built well and liked to be driven at the limit. The Fulvia was available as a hot little coupe but also as the Berlina sedan. Now, the whole family can get in on the shenanigans.
This one needs some work. There's some rust and the paint has seen far better days. But it's a running and driving project car. It's $5,800 on Facebook Marketplace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2006 Yamaha Road Star Midnight Warrior - $7,000
This Road Star Midnight Warrior is the rare kind of cruiser; as Rider Magazine noted in its review, it has some sporting credentials. It makes about 75 HP from a lumpy, 1670cc v-twin and it's completely blacked out, too. It also has some modern tech despite its age like an LCD display and LED headlight.
It's $7,000 on Facebook Marketplace in Sequim, Washington, with 14,000 miles.
1979 Ford F-250 Camper Special - $3,000
I love old trucks, especially ones that look like they have some stories to tell. This 1979 Ford F-250 Camper Special isn't in perfect shape, but it isn't rough, either. It has a 7.5-liter V8 paired to an automatic transmission and it comes in a wonderful green color inside and out. The Camper Special package gives the truck towing mirrors, a high-amp alternator, camper wiring harness, dual batteries and more.
Rust is said to be minor without holes and the truck drives great. It's $3,000 on Facebook Marketplace in Everett, Washington, with 62,000 miles.
1989 Toyota Corolla All-Trac Wagon - $5,250
An old Corolla isn't normally all that exciting, but this wagon is just begging to go wheeling in a forest. This Corolla has Toyota's All-Trac all-wheel drive, which locks a center differential to split the engine's power 50/50 between front and rear. It came with 100 HP fed through a manual transmission. I've seen a number of these on trails and they're more capable than they look.
This example is very clean inside and out. It doesn't look like it has the 203,000 miles that its odometer has.
It's $5,250 on Facebook Marketplace in Kirkland, Washington.
1992 Autozam AZ-1 - $24,500
This week's enthusiast car is perhaps the most expensive vehicle featured on this series, but also one of the raddest.
The Autozam AZ-1 is Mazda's delightfully weird gullwing mid-engine kei car. These things don't really fit tall people, but they're a riot to drive with a redline of about 10,000 RPM and a footprint so compact that 100 kph feels like 100 mph. These are still a rare sight anywhere, as only 4,300 were ever built. Sadly, the tiny little cars aren't getting any cheaper.
This one comes in at $24,500 on Facebook Marketplace, courtesy of the Obscure Cars For Sale Facebook group and has some tasteful upgrades done to it. It has all of 43,900 miles under its wheels.
2006 Subaru Forester XT - $8,500
The Forester XT is about the closest Forester owners can get to owning a WRX. Under the hood is the WRX's 2.5-liter turbo boxer four making 230 HP and 235 lb-ft torque. A rare option for these is a manual transmission and this one has it.
This one is said to run and drive great and appears to be mostly stock. It's $8,500 on Facebook Marketplace in Albany, Oregon, with 198,000 miles.
1995 Ford F-800 - $10,000
No Dopest list would be complete without some absurd truck or bus of some kind and I think that this one hits the spot. What you're looking at here is a gargantuan Ford F-800 medium duty commercial truck with a pickup bed on the back.
It's powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins straight six turbodiesel paired to an Allison AT545 automatic. This pairing is a common sight in older school buses and should make for a reliable ride. This truck comes from Texas and is said to be rust free with a working air-conditioner.
It's $10,000 on Facebook Marketplace in Dekalb, Illinois. The seller says that its GVWR comes in under CDL rating, too.
That's it for this week! Have you purchased a car from one of these posts? If so, I want to know.
If you know of a weird car for sale on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, drop it down in the comments or send it along in an email! If the car's still for sale, we may feature it in a future post.
