A Transport Fire Turned A V8-Powered E30 And RS4 Avant Into A Worthless Slag Heap
When a tractor trailer blew up in his town, Dj Buttchug, of a href="http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=271400">r3vlimited forum fame, wrote it off as another meth lab explosion. But a month later he noticed there was something different about that particular supposed meth lab: Its flames had torched a heavily-modded BMW E30 widebody race car.
News of such a sweet car's demise spread around the forum like, well, like wildfire, and a positive identification was made. It was a custom V8-powered E30 built by Vorschlag Motorsports in Plano, Texas.
...it is sad day here at Vorshlag seeing that our GRM $2011 Challenge winning car is no more. We spent early 2012 updating the car after the Challenge, went through every system and upgraded the suspension to AST coilovers, CCW 18x11 wheels, and another hundred hours on top of the 1000+ we had in the $2010-11 build. We sold the car in August, then the 2nd buyer poured some more work and money into the car, then he sold it to another guy... apparently it was in transport to the 3rd buyer when something on the transport caught fire. Don't know any more than that.
This has been a huge Bimmer bummer, not only because it was a sweet car, but because there were also other sweet cars on the carrier when it burst into flames. The other cars consumed by the blaze appear to be an Audi RS4 Avant and some sort of Mercedes. All of these cars were worth a lot, but are striking examples of the fact that, three-year build or no, someone's dreams can go up in smoke as fast as you please.
Of course someone mentioned old Vlad, the New Jersey-based E30 restorer fending off ball lickers-turned-haters, but we can't speculate about that. Especially since the charred trailer appears to be in Utah somewhere, nowhere near Vlad's, by some accounts inept clutches.
