maybe the 'car' part sets the motor apart from other motors... you know, motorbike, motorneuron, motorway, etc.?

The term "motorcar" has always slightly irked me for some reason, Angus Young notwithstanding. It seems a bit redundant. What other kinds of car are there? Pedalcars? "Motorbike" makes sense, because there actually is such a thing as a pedalbike in common use. But the last time I saw a pedalcar, a 5-year-old was at the wheel, and it definitely wasn't street-legal.
