Shopping For A Nice Malaise Era BMW? How About This M1?
Looking for a BMW from the era of diminished expectations and runaway inflation? Maybe you're considering a mid-70s BMW 2002 with huge bumpers and an automatic, which you should be able to obtain for a bit under a couple grand. Come up with, say, a hundred times that amount, however, and you could fire a thermonuclear Buy It Now at this BMW M1, which was custom coachbuilt for the Prime Minister of Qatar back in the day. It's got low miles, looks great, and is ready to drive. Thanks to Cameron for the tip![eBay motors]
BMW M3 Gets Face Lift For 2009, Now With 10% Less Ugly
The leaky sieve over at BMW has let slip official photos of the 2009 BMW M3 sedan and coupe. Both the E90 and E92 benefit from the 2009 BMW 3-series facelift, which means the bumpers, lights and interiors are cleaned up to make them a little less awkward. While this will probably really piss off people who just paid up to $100,000 for this year's model, we're big fans of the 2008 BMW M3, so I guess we're 10% bigger fans of this new model.(Hat tip to Timothy!) 2011 BMW M5 Spotted Lapping The 'Ring
The first thing you notice about the 2011 BMW M5 is its size. Compared to the E60 M5 chase car, it's positively huge. It also appears to adapt 2009 BMW 7-series proportions. Does this mean it'll adapt that vehicle's über-conservative styling too? We're not sure yet. What we do know is that the biggest change will come in the engine compartment, click through to find out why. More »BMW M3 Plowed Into House By Idiot Teen Driver
Potential idiot parents take note — the 2008 BMW M3 is a finely crafted, high-performance, German-engineered rocket sled. It is not a present to buy for your LA-area 19-year-old. When parents like you buy cars like M3s for your kids, things like this happen — they pile a couple of guys in the car, then take it out for high-speed foolishness. At the peak of teenage testosterone, they will hit the "M button," rocket up a hill, lose control, jump a curb and bash into a house.More »

Note To BMW: New M3 ALMS Racer Looks Hot On Track Without Flame-Surfacing
We first saw the new BMW M3 racer earlier this year at its Chicago Auto Show reveal. Now, after a year of development, the finished product has taken to the track for a test run as it's readied to do battle in the ALMS GT2 class against the likes of the Porsche 911 and Ferrari F430.More »
Uday Is Gone, But Baghdad Car Freaks Still Have It Rough
Saddam Hussein's son Uday used to confiscate any cool car that caught his eye on the streets of Baghdad, so in those days it was best to drive the Kadett and leave the BMW stashed away. Those days are gone, but new dangers lurk for the brave Iraqi who wants to customize his ride. The LA Times has a story on three young Iraqis who have done their best under the circumstances; yes, we might cringe in horror at the sight of a pimped-out M3 or a Mustang convertible with a huge TURBO emblem on the hood, were we to run across such cars here in the US of A, but — given the context of 2008 Baghdad — we can't help but admire the determination these guys are showing. [Los Angeles Times]Automobile Gets The Skinny On Truck Planning At Dodge
Given the current sales climate, it was probably about time somebody sat down with an automaker and asked them what the heck their plan was for trucks. Automobile's Phil Floraday interrogated the Chrysler folks about where the Dodge brand is going now that we're in the middle of the gaspocalypse. They spouted off something about making the Dodge Ram HD a bit more fuel efficient, and even reducing horsepower a bit. Then they wandered into smaller trucks. Spottings of the Zubaz-inspired-camo-wearing Noble M600 continue, and Autocar.uk has managed to get a peek at the tail of the new low-volume supercar. The exterior enhancements at the aft end seem to match the ones at the front, and the design is maturing to match a more refined character from Noble. The exterior upgrades are great and all, but it's what's stuffed in the back that has our eyebrows perked — a twin-turbocharged version of the Yamaha-designed 4.4 liter V8 from the Volvo XC90. More »

down on the street
We love the BMW 6 series cars around here, and so far we've seen an '83 633CSi and an '87 L6 parked on the Alameda street. You fans of the early 5 and 7 series BMWs will have your day, as I'm going to shoot at least one example of each for this series... but that's going to have to wait, because we've got a "stop the presses" sort of a find for today.

You Don't Mess With The Zibar-M
When you're dealing with a military budget of a country surrounded on three sides by those wishing to drive you into the sea on your other side, you're not going to be so much worried about the high cost of gas. That explains the Zibar-M, one of the baddest-looking off-roader recon vehicles we've seen in a very long time. The Zibar-M (we're told the M stands for "M"ilitary) is the newest light reconnaissance vehicle from Israel's IDO off-road industries with an impressive array of sensors and electronics atop a 20 foot pneumatic telescoping mast. But for those of us lovers of the 4x4, it's not the phallic mast that's getting us pitching our tent.More »
Automobile Mag's Top List Of Road Trip Vehicles Gives Sprinter The Nod, Finds Way Into Our Hearts
Oh, boy: Another hot summer day, another list of top vehicles for a road trip. Whereas Kelley Blue Book's top road trip cars list — the last such list we had to endure — was one of the more strange groupings we've seen, today's list from Automobile is absolutely sexy. What, you don't think the Sprinter's sexy? You ever seen the Mercedes diesel it's got under the hood? We're not kidding when we say it's like butter. Really thick, viscous, black butter, but butter nonetheless. Hit the jump for the full list. More »G-Power Rocks Us With 635 HP M6 Hurricane Convertible
Gas prices? Pshaw! Who cares? It's Deutschland tuning day today on Jalopnik apparently as G-Power's just revealed the successor to their G-Power M5 Hurricane with the G-Power M6 Hurricane Convertible. While the M5 got the big 730 HP BI-Kompressor, G-Power's used some kind of radical German-Power technique they're calling "softcharging" to provide 635 HP for the drop-top. That's still up from the 507 HP in the "standard" 5.0-liter V10 under the hood of the "base" model M6. Full power details in the press release below the jump, and all this can be yours for a mere 183,000€ ($285,387). Yes, the "base" M6 is included. Well, after the Neiman Marcus M6 sold out in 92 seconds, we guess it makes sense to up the price on an up-charged version — you know, supply and demand.More »
3M, Visteon BMW X-Wave Concept Demonstrates Future Of In-Car Tech
Featuring a host of Human Machine Interface, lighting, surface and display innovations, 3M and Visteon have created the X-Wave to showcase technology they'd like to bring to the automotive market. The two companies have combined expertises—Visteon with in-car tech and 3M for transmissive optical film and other materials—to find new ways to display information, provide lighting and interact with drivers and passengers. The first thing you'll notice looking at the interior of this adapted X5 is the center console. The buttons are hidden behind its surface, illuminating when the car is on. In lieu of the tactile push a physical button delivers, the virtual buttons react by way of haptic feedback, vibrating or clicking when pressed depending on programming.More »
