Wow, we were totally so thinking about this one today — wondering when our greasy little fan-boy hands were gonna be able to find leaked spy pics from the set of the live-action Transformers movie. Thanks to a friendly neighborhood fan-site, our comic-book wet dreams have been granted — they've got the first pics from the set — and they are epic. First we have a Saleen Mustang dressed up with a Decepticon insignia. Despite some problems we may have with that — because everyone knows Decepticons weren't cars — only Autobots were cars — it's still farking sweet. Second — we've got a Saleen Camaro — and yes, it's a Saleen version of the Camaro concept. So that can only mean one thing — if GM's dropping the money on having this and not the Corvette included in the movie — the General's more than likely gonna be rolling this one out like Autobots rolling out with Prime. [Mad props to Hue Hughes on this one!]
Update: According to fan site Allspark the Saleen Camaro is the new 'Bumblebee.' With the new Bug rumored to be ending production, VDub must have not wanted to pay for the rights — giving Chevy the in — and further evidence the Camaro will be built.

What's with all of the people in the first pic, and the velvet rope? Also, these look a little weak... I mean, the graphics are just blah and they didn't even put any "seams" where the transforming parts would be. I'm really looking forward to the movie though...

I was really looking forward to a Transformers movie until I saw who's writing it. Their credits include: Catwoman, The Core, Star Trek XI, Mission Impissible 3, The Legend of Zorro, The Island, Hercules, and Xena.

Holy crap, the camaro looks great in that colour scheme. Not many cars can get away with being, well.. yellow.
It's my understanding that VW hasn't allowed Hasbro to make a Bumblebee action figure in years... because they don't want their products affiliated with war or violence. Hence using a Camaro instead of a New Beatle. Damnit, my inner-fanboy escpaed again! Back to your cage, damnit!
I want to know who gets the bitchin' albeit clapped-out Camaro.
My first thought was that they probably all start like that and get spiffy later.
Hey guys. Thoughts on decepticons also being cars would be how hard it would be to use jets. Plus bad cars/cops vs. good cars, camaros will rock. But what car would Megatron be?
the decepticons have taken over oklahoma, judging by the license plates on the cop car. i guess native american indians are destined to have people and robots fly in from elsewhere to take their lands. their god mother nature is apparently the Neville Chamberlain of deities.
I can accept bumblebee being a camaro, decepticon cars, and other such stuff. I just NEED to know that optimus prime will be a RED flat nosed semi. I can't wait. I'll be there opening day.
DT -- the Decepticons could be Saab's. Remember, they were born from jets. ;)
Ray: D'oh! Hey, I may have answered my own question about who gets the old Camaro: I bet Bumblebee starts off as that bondoed car, then something happens to him. (Gets rolled by the Deceptacon Mustang?) The Autobots manage to save him, but, much like Colonel Steve Austin, they have to rebuild him to do it. Thus, Bumblebee's new look, i.e. enter the new Camaro!
The biggest problem this movie will to deal with is scale. Megatron shrunk down to a gun that Starscream fired. Starscream was a jet that shrunk to the size of a robot the same size as Autobots, who transformed into comparably smaller vehicles, mostly cars. This is probably why most of what we see (so far) is on relatively the same scale. I hope I'm wrong and they have a way of getting around the scale issue. And if they use Starscream, they must get his shrill voice correct. I can still hear it in my head.
How about Gilbert Godfrey and a tank of helium?
My guess is that just like in the first episode of the tv show -- Teletran One sends out it's little satellite thing to find earth-like forms for the Transformers to transform into in order to become "Robots in Disguise". Thus, they find the old beater Camaro and the Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptor and use those as the body-types to re-build them as -- just in the new forms of a Camaro concept and an 07 Saleen Mustang. But that's merely my guess.

Awesome that they went with Saleen versions! SMG3er, those credits aren't all bad. John Rogers (The Core, Catwoman) is actually a great writer, with the movies he worked on getting banged up along the way courtesy of their studios. He did a KILLER Global Frequency pilot that didn't get picked up.
