over the back fence
The Saab forums are alight with chatter about recently filed GM patents showing off images of a Saabified
Subaru Tribeca which resembles a four door version of a design mock up unofficially
photographed way back in 2005. The interesting part is the supposed Saab 9-6X swipes much of its architecture and styling from the Subaru Tribeca, even though
GM split with the Japanese automaker shortly after the original spy photos. These filings are dated as of November 4, 2008, so it's not like they've been floating around in the ether for 3 years. It's also possible the web is in the process of getting snookered by some photoshopper who thinks he's a funny guy. If real it would be a replacement for the 9-7X which is about to be killed off with a plant closure. Of course, in our opinion Saab needs a replacement SUV like a
Prius needs drag slicks.

Gymkhana
No, not
Gymkata...
Gymkhana! It's an automotive sport taking place on an open field or a parking lot requiring drivers to skillfully maneuver their cars around a series of cones, slaloms, 180 degree turns, 360 degree turns, figure eight turns or other obstacles.
Ken Block's taken this concept a wee bit further...whipping his Crawford Performance-tuned 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI around some unusual course obstacles... like houses and hilariously, a stunt guy driving a Segway. Epic. You can now see why
0-60mag just named the man "Hoon of the Year." Hit the jump for the full
Gymkhana practice session video. We're going to pull our jaw up off the floor.

subaru wrx sti
Subaru is celebrating 20 years of hi-po Scoobies with a 300-unit run of
WRX STi Anniversary Edition models. The main differences of importance to enthusiasts are in the suspension, where new coilover damper units stiffen up the handling and carry 18-inch alloy wheels as standard equipment. Flat black details and special badging round out the exterior differences, while the interior gets cosmetic touches like red seat stitching, a red stop/start button and even more badging, all for the equivalent of about $42k US. A little flash, no more dash. Happy anniversary.

over the back fence
The joint sports car effort between
Toyota and Subaru has so far remained hugely secretive, but details are beginning to sneak out giving form to the highly anticipated venture. Several publications are making "informed guesses" about the basis for the car, assumed to be a shortened, two-door, two-seat version of the
Subaru Legacy. Best guesses outfit the car with a 200 HP, 2.0-liter flat-four backed by a six-speed transmission and tipping the scales around 2,600 lbs. The word on all-wheel-drive is still out, but we'd bet the Subie would have it while the 'Yota may pass. Roll those specs around in your mind and try not to whisper the alphanumeric moniker "AE86." [

nice price or crack pipe
We're back for more harsh price judgment on possible cases of car-seller wishful thinking. Is a seller's asking price grounded in reality or indicative of overindulgence in those mean ol' Hubba Rocks? Yesterday, 61% of you thought that $97,000 was just
way too much louie for
this '57 Chevy 210. Was that because the '57 Chevy is just
too common? How about something unique and handcrafted, guaranteed to make pedestrians walk into trees as you drive by? Say, the unholy union of a 1973 VW Beetle and a 1985 Subaru GL, with both engines still intact and functional and priced at $20,000? Working two gearshifts might be tricky, especially if the car also has two clutch pedals, but it goes without saying that this car
must be driven using both engines simultaneously. Thanks to
DodgePolara500 for the tip!

This is
Down On The Street Bonus Edition, where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the
Island That Rust Forgot. I've been going back and forth on the DOTSworthiness of a Subaru Justy I keep seeing in Alameda (and on 80s Subarus in general, for that matter, though I'll probably go ahead and include a few in the series), but there's no doubt that the Trusty Justy, which
Bubs shot in Key West, deserves some glory here. The name alone! Make the jump for Bubs' description.

subaru impreza wrx sti spec c
This version of the
Subaru Impreza WRX STi, known as the Takumi concept, gives us a hint of what's in store for the upcoming
Spec C hardcore version. Visually, there's not much to distinguish this car from a normal STi besides the 12-spoke rims, though it's said the production Spec C will feature subtle body tweaks including a roof scoop. Rest assured, the important changes are under the skin, with beefed-up drivetrain components, springs, shocks and other suspension bits. No word on exactly how much power this hardened version will make, but it's sure to be a much more focused driver's car no matter what. Of course, if even the standard STi feels like overkill to you, there's always the newly improved
2009 Impreza WRX.
