MPH posted new spy shots of the upcoming BMW 3-Series coupe, virtually naked to the world. They're the clearest shots we'll get until later this year, when the model gets a proper unveiling at the Paris motor show. (At least we think it'll be Paris.) Spies are convinced the test car has the new turbo mill the company rolled out in Geneva. We'll believe it when we hear the whine and see that BMW roundel streaking away.

Is this another photochop? The lack of discloser about this on some sites in BS.
Well, assuming this one IS for real, it's far more attractive than some of the other post-Bangle revamps. But even though it's not ugly, it's absolutely lost the magic. It looks like the sub-headlight assembly line, which so intimately cupped the lower shape of each lamp of the last model, pre-freshening, only to be simplified into two slack upward curves no longer corresponding to the lights at all, has finally been smoothed into an awkward, halfhearted stutter, neither two curves nor a single smooth one anymore. Oh well, at least the trim around the dual kidneys is of a relatively uniform, sensible thickness, unlike the grilles on some of the earlier nu-Benz abortions. It's the rear that loses me, though. They managed to take the chiseled flanks of the E46 and turn them into what could be the ass end of literally any car that will be built in the next 5 years. The contours from the rear look uninspiring and bland. Maybe next redesign?
