GM Reportedly Slashing NASCAR Budget

A report in USA Today is putting meat on the bones of a statement made at GM's presser last week, when the boss-men made mention of cutbacks to the PR budget which would hit motorsports especially hard. It seems those crosshairs are aimed directly at NASCAR: With a $15 billion dollar hole to dig itself out of, and a NASCAR promotions budget of $120 million, GM's cuts are expected to be fairly aggressive. Barack Obama To Sponsor NASCAR Sprint Cup Car In Florida, Other Cars To Turn Right In Protest

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama will be attempting to reach red state audiences by sponsoring a NASCAR Sprint Cup car for the Pocono race on August 3rd of this year. Assuming no one gives it the red flag, this will be the first time that a presidential candidate has officially sponsored a NASCAR entrant. The one-time sponsorship deal is part of a larger "get out the vote" and "make John McCain spend all his money" initiative by the campaign. The #49 car is run by BAM Racing and will be driven by Ken Schrader. Of course, it's a Toyota. More »

CNBC's Jim Cramer Goes To NASCAR, Teaches Fans To Say "BOOYAH!"

The bald-headed man out to make 'merica money will be heading "to Nascar's pit row" for his first NBC special called "The American Dream with Jim Cramer." That's right folks, "Big" Jim's jumping over to the airwaves from cable and in doing so, the Mad Money-man is looking to teach fans of the rubbin' is racin' series what making a buck is all about. Although you'd think we'd laugh off his prospects of success, he's bringing some of the big names in "stock car" racing with him — Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Burton and Casey Mears — so hopefully a tip or two may sink in. But really, the best part of the entire show will more than likely be seeing Cramer taking a run on the circular track himself in the cockpit side-seat of a Petty Experience Nascar racer at 160 MPH. Former NASCAR Official Sues For Rampant Discrimination, It's Worse Than You Think

Former NASCAR Technical Inspector Mauricia Grant is suing the racing organization to the tune of $250 million, citing some pretty extraordinary examples of racial, sexual, religious and downright ridiculous discrimination. In a 40-page legal filing made in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Tuesday, Grant claims that, on many occasions, other officials referred to her as a "Nappy Headed Mo," "Mohammed," and "Al Queda" as well as exposing their penises for her inspection. We doubt that was included on the roles and responsibilities portion of her offer letter. Seems NASCAR now has its very own Don Imus/Max Mosley scandal. [WBIR]

Even for those of us who aren't fans of the always-turning-one-way-action there's one thing we can all come together on for entertainment value: the crashes. Eldora Speedway's Only Three Hours Away...

...and the Prelude To The Dream race starts at 7:00 PM tonight. We could totally make it down to the Tony Stewart-owned track. And believe us, we seriously thought about taking a run down to the track from Detroit. But frankly after covering it last year, the thought of spending the next week wiping down the dirt from our laptop again is making us reconsider the idea — even if it's a blast watching Nascar drivers getting schooled on the dirt-track by the local soil-grinders. But — maybe we'll snag it on Pay-Per-View this year instead. Hey, the money goes to a good cause, right? At the very least we'll try to get some updates tonight — in between watching Game Six of the Stanley Cup Finals. Jeez, why am I feeling like we're going all Deadspin over here? Kasey Kahne Wakes Up After 600 Mile Cruise, Finds He's Won Coca Cola 600

This weekend lovers of the oval saw NASCAR's Coca Cola 600 at the Lowes Motor Speedway won by Budweiser-sponsored Kasey Kahne in his #9 Dodge Charger "Car of Tomorrow." Did you notice almost half of that sentence was constructed with race sponsors? We did. Kahne basically fell into the win for the longest circle track race in the world after Tony Stewart's tire took a dirt nap on lap 397. Randy Moss To Start NASCAR Truck Team And No, We're Not Joking

Randy Moss, the man who combined with Tom Brady to give us quite the fantasy football season last year (and, apparently, helped take the Patriots to the Super Bowl), is going to be starting a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team.
